A Look Back at the 2024 Good Character Gala

On December 11, 2024, the Greater Los Angeles Scouting community gathered for an unforgettable evening celebrating leadership, service, and the impact of Scouting.

We were proud to honor Dave Roberts, Manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, with the Good Character Award, introduced by Mayor Karen Bass, who also presented him with a special Proclamation from the City of Los Angeles. The evening also featured a moving tribute to Preston Dalie, who received the Honor Medal for Lifesaving in recognition of his extraordinary courage.

“I’ve always told my guys, ‘If you care about the guy next to you, and really want the best for him, then everything else will take care of itself.’ That’s a lesson I see reflected in the work of Greater Los Angeles Scouting, and for that, this organization and all of you young Scouts have my deepest respect and admiration.” – Dave Roberts

Supporters from across Los Angeles, including civic leaders, business partners, Scouting families, and community champions, came together for an unforgettable evening at the Good Character Gala, celebrating leadership and the transformative impact of Scouting.

We were proud to honor Dave Roberts, Manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, with the Good Character Award, presented by Mayor Karen Bass, who also shared a special City of Los Angeles Proclamation in his honor. A rousing performance by the UCLA Marching Band brought the crowd to its feet, setting the tone for an inspiring night. Guests heard powerful reflections from Eagle Scouts Belen Haro (Troop 927) and Coen Martinez (Troop 407), and were charmed by 8-year-old Grace Custodia and her Eagle Scout brother Andrew, who led the room in reciting the Scout Oath and Law, showcasing the next generation of Scouting leadership.

Actor and comedian Anthony Anderson emceed the evening with humor and heart, keeping the program engaging and memorable.

Board Chairman and President Steven J. Rothans expressed heartfelt thanks to the Gala Committee, sponsors, Scouts, and families who made the night possible, and shared an inspiring vision for the future of Scouting in Greater Los Angeles.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, Scouting continues to provide life-changing opportunities and build the leaders of tomorrow. The Good Character Gala honored Scouting’s legacy and reaffirmed our shared commitment to its future.
