Chipmunk Scouting is designed to be simple, fun, and family-focused, creating a welcoming introduction to Scouting for young children and their parents. Meetings are led by parent volunteers, called Scurry Coordinators, with support from a Chipmunk Ranger at the district or council level.

The program emphasizes storytelling, creativity, and kindergarten-readiness skills. Instead of ranks or badges, children earn stickers in a recognition book as they participate in activities and weekly themes. A neckerchief and slide provide a sense of belonging and identity. Unlike other Scouting programs, Chipmunk Scouting focuses exclusively on local gatherings and does not include district or council events. This limited scope keeps the program easy to manage, reduces time commitments, and allows families to explore Scouting at a comfortable pace.
