A Look Back at the 2025 Good Character Gala
On November 12, 2025, the Greater Los Angeles Scouting community gathered for an unforgettable evening celebrating leadership, service, and the impact of Scouting.
We were proud to honor Jim McDonnell, Chief of Police, Los Angeles Police Department, with the Good Character Award, for his remarkable career in service to the people of Los Angeles and beyond. His leadership, humility, and commitment to building trust reflect the values that Scouting strives to nurture in every young person.
A heartfelt thank you to Wendy Burch, an Emmy Award-winning television journalist with KTLA, for guiding the night with warmth and energy. As well as our amazing youth speakers, Eagle Scout Katie Kim, Explorer Lieutenant John Leon, and the LAPD Cadet Lieutenant Kevin Ovalle, who set the tone from the very start. Their presence reminded us why this work matters and what good character looks like in action.
We were all moved by the stories shared during the program, including the resilience of youth and families affected by recent wildfires. Their courage and perseverance highlight the importance of ensuring young people have access to the support and opportunities that Scouting provides.
Thank you to our sponsors, guests, volunteers, and leadership who helped make the event possible. Because of you, more young people across Greater Los Angeles will experience mentorship, outdoor adventure, and the kind of life-shaping experiences that build character and confidence.
