Unit Renewal
Membership renewal is now separate from unit renewal. Payment of yearly membership fees will be completed with a family/self-pay option, or the unit can elect to pay membership fees for any member in the unit. Units will complete a simple unit renewal, verifying that all adult positions are filled and all adults have current Safeguarding Youth Training (Formerly YPT) and then pay the $100 unit renewal fee.
Unit Renewal Information
Unit renewal can be completed starting the month prior to the unit expiration date. For most units in Greater Los Angeles Scouting, renewal will be available August 1st and must be completed by September 30th. You can check your unit expiration date on your Unit Dashboard in the Organization Manager of my.scouting.org. Any member of the unit Key-3 can complete the unit renewal.
Please complete the unit renewal as soon as possible! You do not have to wait for your members to renew to complete this process. Completing this as soon as possible avoids issues closer to the expiration date, and verifying your Unit Pin is important for your fall recruiment.

Membership Renewal
Membership renewal can be completed starting the month prior to the membership expiration date. Individual members/families can complete their membership renewal. Your unit can also opt to complete membership renewals for some or all of its members. You will find the Settings for these options in the Organization Manager. Units can renew their members on the roster screen. You can check your membership expiration date on the home page of your my.scouting.org account under your name and member ID.
Each member will receive an email notice with a registration renewal link beginning 60 days before their membership expiration date. Starting in August, Scouting America will begin sending direct text reminders to members about upcoming renewals. These helpful reminders will start going out 45 days before the membership expires.
Membership Renewal Process:
- All membership in the Scouting America will be renewed on a 12-month membership cycle.
- Each member, youth, or adult will renew their membership on their anniversary month. Many will have an anniversary that is the month their unit renewed last, and any new members will renew 12 months after they joined.
- Membership renewals will be completed either by credit card with a 12-month renewal payment from the individual, by a Scout unit that has elected “Unit will pay all our members renewals” option, or by a manual payment at the Council Office.

Merit Badge Counselors:
- Beginning in August 2023, merit badge counselors who are not registered as an adult leader in a unit pay an annual $25 fee.
- Merit badge counselors are not registered in a unit position and therefore are not allowed to attend overnight Scouting activities/events.

Financial Assistance
If you have families that require financial assistance, please have them fill out the form on this page. Our council registration department will process their financial assistance applications and will register them in the unit or renew their membership.
